Halesi Tour, Halesi (Maratika) is a very famous destination for Buddhist and Hindus People, which situated in Khotang District 247km from Kathmandu. The location of this mystical cave is in between the holy rivers of Dudh Koshi to the right and Sun Koshi to the left.
Buddhists believe that Guru Padmasambhava also known as second Buddha meditated here for three months, where he attained Vidhyadhara of immortality or long life.
There are two caves one from opened from upside and from the downside. In one cave Guru Padmasambhava attained Viddyadhara of Immorality or Long life and another cave he had subdued the Maras or the Maras of Death.
Other beliefs hold that Buddha Amitabha and Dakinis wrote the eighteen secret Tantras (mystical ritual text) to get long life and hidden these in the Maratika Cave inside a ritual vase/Kalasha.
And Hindus believes that Lord Shiva came to this cave to hide from demon Bhasmasur. Later on, Lord Shiva killed the demon Bhasmasur in the same place and after that, they built these caves as their abode.
It is believed that these caves are more than 6000 years old. The water droplets from the ceiling of the cave are considered to be the potion which gives long life and is considered to be very holy.
Many Hindu and Buddhists devotees make here pilgrim in the occasion of Ram Nawami, Shiva Raatri and Ganesh Chaturthi.
Drive from Kathmandu via Dhulikhel, Nepalthok, Khurkot takes 11 to 12 hours one way. If you start early in the morning, reach late evening.
The best season for this trip is from Jan to June and September to December months.
Day 01: Kathmandu drives to Halesi:
Our Car or Jeep come to your hotel or place to pick very early morning. If you start to drive early morning then we’ll get less traffic. Kathmandu to Halesi by jeep is a scenic drive it takes approximately 4h 31m to get from Kathmandu to Halesi, the driving distance is approximately 247 km. On the way, we can observe great landscapes and beautiful settlements.
Day 02: Full Day Exploration
Today is our full-day exploration day so There are two caves one from opened from upside and from the downside. In one cave Guru Padmasambhava attained Viddyadhara of Immorality or Long life and another cave he had subdued the Maras or the Maras of Death. Meditation and ceremony with Lamas (Monks) and Tour Guide.
Day 03: Drive Back to Kathmandu.
