Community Trek has prepared a special tour package of Buddhist pilgrimage in Nepal. Buddha, an idol of peace and harmony all over the world since two millennium. King Suddhodhana and queen Maya Devi gave birth to a child called Siddhartha Gautama some 2500 years ago as a crown prince of kingdom of Kapilvastu, Lumbini. The little child had come to be known as Lord Buddha throughout the world. Lumbini is the birth place of Buddha and it is one of the greatest pilgrimage sites for Buddhist around the world. It lies some 300 km southwest of Kathmandu near the border of India. There are many sign and symbol of Buddha’s childhood days still in existence around the Lumbini garden.
This tour has been carefully made to cover all important Buddhist sites and beautiful Himalayan view point. Lumbini itself very sacred place, it houses a small pond where Buddha was bathed after his birth, image of young Buddha with his mother, a stone pillar was erected by Indian emperor Ashoka to mark the importance of the site. Along with Lumbini and surrounding area, in Kathmandu we visit Swyambhu Nath the oldest stupa in the world, which was found some 2000 years ago, Bouddha Nath the biggest stupa of the world with many Buddhist monk from Nepal and Tibet can be met. Also we visit Pharping (Yanglesho) is the place where Guru Padmashambhava attained the state of enlightenment and he Namobuddha Stupa is believed to be erected over the relic of Bodhisattva who sacrificed himself to feed starving mother tigress and her cubs.
Welcome to the Himalayan country of Nepal! Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport one of Community Trek representatives will be there to welcome you before taking you to your hotel in Kathmandu.
Come down to the Hotel restaurant for breakfast. Your tour guide will be introduced. He will guide you through the Buddhist sites of Kathmandu. We will visit two stupas of Swyambhunath and Boudhanath, Naropa and Tilopa caves of Pashupatinath and the oldest existing Buddhist city of Patan.
We drive to Lumbini today – about 300 kilometers south-west from Pokhara which takes for about 7-8 hours. We head toward a more flat lands of Nepal’s Terai. Generally, the weather gets hot and humid in the plains except in the winter. Perhaps, Lumbini is the most important Buddhist pilgrimage site – the place where Buddha was born. In case we reach Lumbini around the sunset time, we can stroll in the local market to have a glimpse into the local lifestyle.
Lumbini is one of world’s major religious, architectural, and historical places. We devote today’s time in visiting as many places and sites in Lumbini as possible. The place is really a big area with monuments, temples, and ancients sites making it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. First we visit the Mayadevi temple which is built on the exact place where Buddha was born. We spend some time wandering around the gardens. We also visit the museum and peace pagoda. Some of the important landmarks and monuments in Lumbini include: Ashoka’s Pillar erected by Emperor Ashoka (249 BC) on the spot of Buddha’s birth which also has the oldest inscription in Nepal. There are many Buddhist Temples founded by the devotees from different countries: Tibetan, Chinese, Japanese and Burmese, Korean, etc.
We head back toward Kathmandu today – about 300 kilometers journey into the winding mountain road. The journey would take for about 6-7 hours. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel.
After breakfast, we will drive to Bhaktapur, which is 17 km (45 mints) from Kathmandu. Bhaktapur is known as ‘The Living Museum’ as it still retains its medieval fragrance. Just the hill above Bhaktapur lies the cave where Milarepa meditated. It is known as Bagishwari Saraswati Sthan (Manjushree cave). Later drive to Namobuddha. The Namobuddha Stupa is believed to be erected over the relic of Bodhisattva who sacrificed himself to feed starving mother tigress and her cubs. Namobuddha at 1,700 m is also provides panoramic view of the Himalayas. Drive back and spend a night in Dhulikhel.
Sunrise over the Himalayas from Dhulikhel is what drives hundreds of tourist in this hill staion town. After breakfast, we will drive to Pharping in the south of Kathmandu. Pharping (Yanglesho) is the place where Guru Padmashambhava attained the state of enlightenment. There are two major caves blessed by Padmasambhava. Drive back to Kathmandu and free evening for last hour packing. There will be a farewell dinner in the evening to celebrate the successful completion of our journey.
Your adventure in Nepal comes to an end today! A representative from Community Trek will take you to the airport, approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. On your way home you’ll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
