Ramesh Tamang grew up in the remote mountain village of Aiselukharka in the Khotang district of Nepal, growing up in such an environment hasn’t been easy but he could gather a lot of experience from such a lifestyle. After finishing school, he went to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest, looking for a job and started his career as a trekking porter before heading to Kathmandu.
Having been a guide for the past 8 years, he has traveled extensively all over Nepal. It is in 2014 that he established Community Treks & Expedition. His objective being to provide authentic travel experiences to fellow adventure seekers like him while improving the development of Nepal, especially in rural areas. He is determined to lead his company in a sustainable way through community development initiatives:
“Our programs are designed to provide quality services and exceptional experiences for our clients while ensuring that these same experiences will be available for generations to come. Our company is structured to provide career and educational opportunities for our staff while developing and supporting programs that improve the life quality of the different communities involved in our activities.”
Tour Guide (Historical and Cultural specialist)
Born in a Tamang family, one of the ethnic groups of Nepal, he became aware of the different cultural and religious rites and traits of his place and community and was quite shocked to observe some of the paradoxical religious activities of his own community. When he finished high school, he started to work in a Thangka painting studio as a sales person. At this point, he started to learn more and more about different religious aspects such as iconography. After a few years, he became an expert concerning Buddhist & Hindu iconography and some different traits of these cultures.
Curiosity and interest on the Buddhist culture raised in him and after many years working in this Thangka store, he could gather enough resources to start to study Buddhism in a more extensive and deep way. Therefore he joined the University in 2004 to study Buddhism and did 3 years bachelor degree in Buddhist Philosophy and history of Buddhist traditions.
He is now well versed in Buddhist philosophy and Buddhist cultural history and has good knowledge concerning eastern, western culture, religion and the ancient civilization developed in the Indian subcontinent.
He knows that one will have the better understanding of Nepalese people, culture, and history only by having basic knowledge concerning the animist/shamanist belief systems and Hinduism and Buddhism as the backgrounds where the different cultures and beliefs have their roots.
His passion is to share his knowledge and we are honored to have such an outstanding cultural guide in our ranks.
